Belleek Pottery's First Production
Belleek Pottery's first production was mainly concentrated on making household ware. These include the floor tiles, tableware mortars, washstands, pestles, telegraph insulators, and hospital pans. On the other hand, John Caldwell Bloomfield's business partners, Robert Williams Armstrong and David Mc Birney, have a different approach. They want to fully expand their industry into crafting quality and elegant pottery pieces. However, their plan did not push trough until 1863. During this year, Parian was modestly produced. At around 1865, Belleek Pottery started exporting their products to other countries outside of Ireland. These include the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, and Canada. In fact, Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales, and other Royal Family members ordered a handful of Belleek potteries.
In 1872 at the Dublin Exposition, Belleek pottery crafted out from porcelain was first introduced. Its exhibit was the largest among the Irish and English industrial regions. The fine pieces displayed include the ice buckets, Parian china statues & busts, centerpieces, and compotes.
Belleek Pottery's Second Black Mark used from 1891 to 1926 was characterized by the addition of a ribbon in the other half of the pottery design. It was also marked with the words CO FERMANAGH IRELAND". However, the mark was change to IRELAND (the pottery's country of origin) in conformity with Mc Kinley Tariff Act of 1891 and the British Merchandise Act of 1887.
